Stone: Maggot infestation astonishing in this day and age

10.46.04am BST (GMT +0100) Fri 3rd Jul 2009

Commenting on the closure of three operating theatres at Royal Aberdeen Children's Hospital caused by the discovery of maggots, Liberal Democrat Public Health spokesperson Jamie Stone MSP said:

"The cancellation of operations will cause serious concern to parents and families not to mention the distress suffered by children waiting for surgery.

"This seems to be an astonishing turn of events in this day and age - something you associate with the nineteenth century rather than the twenty first.

"The public must have full confidence in the hygiene standards of hospitals. NHS Grampian must launch an immediate investigation to discover the reasons of this infestation and see to it that this can never happen again."
